The Africa Peacemaking Network (APN) of the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) calls for applications from senior African academics and researchers based in the Universities, training, and policy institutions in Africa as applications are open for the APN Collaborative Working Group Research fellowship.
They are to come together to assemble and lead collaborative research projects that are intended to inform policy and practice on conflict as well as peacebuilding in the continent.
The African Peacemaking Network (APN) fellowship is an initiative and key complement to field-based and networking components of the Africa Peacemaking network programming. It will seek to respond to the need for deep collaboration and engagement of researchers and practitioners on peacebuilding in Africa. Also, it will connect research policies, promote mentoring of younger scholars by senior colleagues, foster networking between scholars and practitioners as well as increase the possibilities of impacting policies through the knowledge-production process.

The APN will be supporting the working group in undertaking original policy-relevant research that focuses on design, implementation, and the impact of peacebuilding mechanisms and processes in conflict-affected African countries and sub-regions. There will also be support for research, the convening of scholar-practitioner meetings, and analysis of issues such as:
- Inequality, poverty, and natural resource conflicts
- Local peacebuilding cultures, mechanisms, and practices
- Climate change, peace, and security
- Women, peace, and security
- Transnationalization, migration, youth radicalization, extremism, and violence.

Eligibility for the Africa Peacemaking Networking (APN) fellowship
- Applicants must be scholars or practitioners based in Africa, with a lead investigator based at or affiliated to an African University.
- The competition is for joint researcher-practitioner teams (of 6 members) who are Africans based at or have an affiliation with Universities, regional organizations, government agencies or NGOs, media, or civil society organizations in Africa.
- The lead investigator must have a Ph.D. while other members of the team can be junior lecturers and practitioners that are expected to hold at least a master’s degree with 2 or more years of working experience.
Support
An APN Collaborative Working Group Research Fellowship will be supported by a maximum award of $60,000 for a period of 18 months.
